Senior Technical Program Manager - Security

OpenAI
$165,400 - $285,000

About The Position

OpenAI is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive cross-functional security, privacy, IT, and compliance initiatives at the intersection of infrastructure, product, and policy. This role is deeply technical and execution-focused, requiring a structured operator who thrives in ambiguity, partners effectively across boundaries, and applies principled judgment to scale trust, governance, and security across OpenAI’s systems and products. The TPM will execute complex programs that reduce internal data access, prevent misuse, and ship security capabilities, focusing on critical initiatives within Security, spanning insider threat, information security, physical security, and information technology challenges.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading complex technical programs focused on infrastructure security, data privacy, compliance, or enterprise platform capabilities.
  • Deeply fluent in the intersection of engineering systems, security controls, and regulatory expectations—and are able to bring clarity and structure across all three.
  • Structured, detail-oriented, and rigorous in ensuring quality, accountability, and durable delivery.
  • Proven record of success driving highly cross-functional efforts across engineering, infrastructure, legal, compliance, and product stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Empathetic communicator and leader—able to influence across technical and non-technical audiences, and build durable trust with partners.
  • Thrive in high-trust environments, bring rigor and systems thinking to ambiguity, and operate with a bias for aligned execution over org boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Drive execution of critical security and compliance programs such as vulnerability management, merger and acquisition security and integration, infrastructure hardening, and datacenter security management.
  • Deeply collaborate on technical architecture and resolve technical problems in partnership with engineering.
  • Partner with IT, Infrastructure, Application, Legal, Privacy, and Security teams to build scalable programs, and deliver critical security outcomes across multiple disciplines, including insider threat, information security, physical security, and information technology.
  • Establish scalable frameworks and build programs around critical security initiatives including vulnerability management, evidence collection, incident response coordination, supply chain risk management, and device security.
  • Track and enforce OpenAI’s privacy and security requirements by translating commitments into engineering milestones and driving their full implementation across systems.
  • Create and maintain program-level visibility across risk areas, security milestones, and cross-org dependencies—ensuring outcomes are delivered reliably and at high quality.
  • Communicate status, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly to technical and executive audiences and drive cross-functional execution with urgency and care.
