About The Position

The Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and tech-savvy product leader with a passion for local news to help drive engagement, evolve internal tools, and drive operational efficiency. This role will manage and quickly interpret business and customer needs, and partner with product design and engineering to launch compelling solutions. You’ll work with editorial, marketing, audience, analytics, and business development teams to identify and prioritize product needs for both The Baltimore Banner and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. A goal-oriented mindset, energy for problem solving, and bias for action are essential for success in this role. Bonus points if you have demonstrated experience in digital news, working with editorial products, and building responsive web and mobile app products (Android and iOS). Reporting to the SVP, Product, you’ll work with editorial, marketing, audience, analytics, and business development teams to identify and prioritize product needs. Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in product management as a discipline; bonus points for experience in digital media and news.
  • A proven track record of driving ideas from concept to execution, with increasing complexity.
  • Experience writing technical reports and documentation and/or background in software engineering.
  • Systems troubleshooting, bug identification, test plan execution, and documentation related to system baselines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate a creative vision, concepts, ideas, and solutions clearly, and effectively to stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Power to influence others and build consensus, while dealing with ambiguity
  • A degree in a relevant academic discipline, i.e. science/engineering, visual or experiential design, journalism or domain expertise / equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Define and shape the product roadmap to solve critical problems to drive engagement, revenue growth, personalization, and operational efficiency
  • Lead projects through product discovery, research, experimentation, usability testing, and the launch of iterative product improvements
  • Champion user needs, pain points, and business opportunities across the organization to develop high-functioning features and products.
  • Work collaboratively to craft and execute on a strong product vision, and sharing the progress through written and verbal communication across all levels of leadership
  • Manage the rollout of new products, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned on priorities and timelines, and track their adoption and impact.
  • Constantly seek out opportunities to increase personal and team efficiency and effectiveness in a dynamic environment
