About The Position

WSP is seeking a Senior Technical Manager, Electrical Engineer with a Protective Relaying emphasis for their Charlotte, NC office. This role offers the possibility of remote work from a mutually acceptable location in the United States. The successful applicant will be part of the Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team and will play a direct role in the design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for equipment on the bulk power system. This includes the protection of substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, industrial, and distribution systems. Candidates are expected to have extensive knowledge and experience in many of the listed technical areas, with a strong emphasis on learning and teaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer executing deliverables for Protective Relaying projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Mastery of all technical areas is not required, but a willingness to learn and teach is essential.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a proven history of completing similar projects in a consulting environment.
  • Preference may be given to engineers with commissioning and testing experience, or strong skills in protecting equipment at high voltages (69kV and higher).
  • Preference is also given to applicants with experience mentoring others and a willingness to do so.

Responsibilities

  • Direct role in the design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for equipment on the bulk power system.
  • Protection of substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, industrial, and distribution systems.
  • Lead teams on client projects to meet the scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Support infrequent onsite site visits to collect data and discuss project specifics at an appropriate technical level for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
