About The Position

This Opportunity The Senior Technical Director, Stations Lead will report directly to the program engineering manager through the facilities manager and support the program’s underground station development. Owner's Engineer and accountability that technical deliverables meet project requirements. This role will be based in a client office in San Jose. Your Impact The stations lead will focus on the management of the General Engineering Consultant (GEC) design team and support for the areas noted below: Does not direct GEC engineering and architecture team but engages GEC team, as needed Lead coordination activities for Station Design team and SOE design efforts Prepare for and attend Community Working Group (CWG) meetings and stakeholder coordination meetings Provider review of design documents, coordinate with BART as needed on station design refinements Coordinate schedule of design delivery as well as construction schedule analysis with project controls team Understand and facilitate delivery of Contract Packages associated with this work by coordinating with Contract Leads, Specification Lead and Procurement Lead. Attend and facilitate design coordination meetings as needed. Support facilities engineering manager and engineering manager for program related tasks. Provide technical reviews of all station design documents including structures, architectural, MEP, civil/site, utilities, roadways, etc. to assure DCM compliance and maintain/reduce construction costs by facilitating cost reduction assessments. Liaison with other CPs on technical issues and inter- package interface definition Liaison with VTA Design Manager Liaison with External Affairs and other external VTA groups Point of contact to third Party Coordinator on issues related to CP Leads over-the-shoulder reviews with BART and other third parties Supports PM in monitoring overall design activities Responsible for tracking CP action items Responsible for communications beyond the CP team Construction RFP

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • 15+ years of relevant post-education experience in related roles within our industry.
  • Experience in large rail transit design and construction projects.
  • Demonstrated exceptional ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger scale/complex projects, programs, documents, systems, and practices.
  • Excellent self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years in a similar role is preferred.
  • Experience in transit, tunnels, and BART (or similar) is preferred.
