The Senior Technical Designer is an expert problem solver who develops sophisticated technical solutions for complex projects. This role is responsible for leading the technical design of advanced fabrication elements—including mechanical and electromechanical interactives—while collaborating closely with fabricators and project managers throughout development, prototyping, and execution.

Requirements

  • High proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D).
  • Relevant degree, diploma, professional certification, or equivalent hands-on experience with demonstrated technical skill
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Draftsperson or Project Manager detailing projects within museum exhibits, displays, cabinetry/millwork, theater, or opera
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems proactively
  • Solid understanding of materials, methods, and workflows used in a custom fabrication facility
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Demonstrates honesty, responsiveness, accountability, foresight, and empathy

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed shop drawings for a wide range of projects across exhibit, millwork, theater, special events, and custom fabrication markets
  • Independently manage and execute drafting for projects of varying complexity, including mechanical and electrical interactive systems
  • Create CNC-ready files, including 3D carving toolpaths, using Fusion 360
  • Analyze and resolve unique fabrication challenges using practical, efficient, and creative problem-solving approaches
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Use and actively promote Ravenswood Studio’s Key Predictors of Success
  • Clearly communicate design intent through precise and comprehensive drawings
  • Maintain open, consistent communication with the Associate Director of Technical Design, Project Managers, Project Leads, and Detailers
  • Develop detailed drawings for project-specific components sourced from external suppliers
