About The Position

Trail of Bits is seeking a Senior Technical Content Editor to bridge the gap between technical editing and marketing content production. This role is crucial for maintaining the quality and output of security reports while also creating marketing content to promote the company's research, tools, and thought leadership. The position involves collaborating with the Lead Technical Editor on report editing, blog production, and quality assurance, as well as working with the Technical Marketing Manager on campaigns and social media. The role requires a blend of technical fluency to ensure content accuracy for a security-aware audience and marketing acumen to effectively package research for relevant audiences. The ideal candidate is a proactive storyteller who can identify and develop content opportunities from various sources, including engineering work and internal communications. As an AI-native company, the role will involve using and improving AI-powered content creation and editing tools, such as Claude Code, and developing new tools as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong editorial skills, including grammar, mechanics, and style.
  • Comfort working at all editing levels, from line-level edits to structural reorganization.
  • Experience editing against in-house and standard style guides (Chicago and/or AP).
  • Experience editing technical content for accuracy, clarity, and concision in cybersecurity or another technical field.
  • Experience partnering with subject matter experts to shape content.
  • Ability to handle edits for a 40-page security report and a technical blog post in the same day.
  • Baseline cybersecurity knowledge is helpful, with the ability to research and ask focused questions.
  • Proactive story instincts; ability to monitor various sources for content opportunities.
  • Writing ability to produce original content for technical and business audiences.
  • Content marketing awareness, including experience with campaigns, content calendars, or marketing assets in a technical B2B environment.
  • Proficiency in developer-adjacent workflows: GitHub, Hugo, Slack, markdown, and AI-assisted editing tools like Claude.
  • Experience building or using automation to speed up editorial workflows.
  • Ownership and independence; ability to operate with minimal direction and defend editorial judgments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with InDesign or equivalent design tools for document layout and visual materials.
  • Background in content production for cybersecurity, developer tools, or another technical discipline.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot or similar marketing automation platforms.
  • Experience structuring web content for AI discoverability and agent-ready evaluation.
  • Prior work in a professional services, consultancy, or audit firm environment.
  • Experience with editorial operations at scale, including style guides, contributor guidelines, and submission checklists.

Responsibilities

  • Edit security reports across application security, blockchain, cryptography, AI/ML, and research & engineering engagements, ensuring technical accuracy, clarity, and adherence to style standards.
  • Develop, edit, and publish blog posts on the Trail of Bits blog.
  • Manage publication processes through GitHub pull requests and coordinate with reviewers.
  • Manage the team's report tracker and quality metrics systems.
  • Build and refine Claude-based tools for content creation and editorial refinement.
  • Lead document design for SOWs, proposals, engineer bios, program overviews, QBR materials, case studies, and testimonials.
  • Shape editorial standards and style guide evolution.
  • Identify and produce marketing content proactively, including blog posts, case studies, social threads, newsletter sections, and event collateral.
  • Own the content calendar in coordination with the Technical Marketing Manager and Lead Technical Editor.
  • Create and publish social media content across X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Telegram.
  • Lead proactive story extraction by interviewing engineers and developing drafts from research and tool releases.
  • Work directly with engineering directors to understand roadmaps and extract content from their teams.
  • Write and edit content for demand generation campaigns, email sequences, webinar materials, and conference activations.
  • Maintain and grow the newsletter pipeline with content curation, section drafts, and repurposed content.
  • Elevate the writing and communication of team members across GTM and engineering.
