About The Position

World Vision is seeking a Protection and Safeguarding in Emergencies Technical Advisor to provide technical leadership in an upcoming donor funded project. The project ensures delivery of rapid, life-saving humanitarian assistance in response to natural disasters and complex emergencies. The program responds directly to increasing frequency, intensity, and complexity of rapid-onset disasters and protracted crises while addressing persistent gaps in timely response, geographic coverage, and support to underserved populations. The Senior Technical Advisor will bring best practices in Protection and Safeguarding to World Vision humanitarian response interventions especially for vulnerable populations in humanitarian crisis. The position will be approximately 75% focused on protection sector leadership in the consortium and 25% dedicated to our commitment to safeguarding. The individual will actively build a culture of safeguarding, where program affiliates (partners, staff, etc) are informed and empowered to discuss key issues, report, and take action on safeguarding. The position requires strong collaboration with consortium partners as well as World Vision field offices and external representation of World Vision’s programming in humanitarian settings. This position may be based in the WVUS DC office or work remotely from within the US.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required.
  • International relevant technical experience, related professional experience, or research institution experience required; 6 years.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Must be able to establish strong relationships cross culturally.
  • Proven work experience securing and/or managing significant funding from institutional donors.
  • Deep technical knowledge in one sector is required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A for any employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in a language other than English preferred.
  • Experience managing multi-country large scale integrated, complex projects/grants in or with INGOs, or consortiums, local and regional partners.
  • Experience documenting lessons learned and knowledge sharing between consortium, project teams and external stakeholders through various means (e.g. organized learning and dissemination opportunities, South to South sharing).
  • Experience working in and with cross cultural environments and cultures.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite, Lotus Notes, intranet and Internet, and various software applications and databases used in work efforts.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as required by the multi-country grant.

Responsibilities

  • Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, chapel, prayer, worship, devotions, and leadership of devotions); incorporate WV Core Values into decisions within scope of role.
  • Provide sector-specific training and technical support to the project consortium and implementation teams, in the areas of protection and safeguarding in humanitarian settings.
  • Collaborate with other consortium partners and World Vision US in designing and monitoring quality interventions for protection in humanitarian settings and ensure that protection principles are mainstreamed through all sectors.
  • Design and lead on research, learning and evidence building in protection in humanitarian settings.
  • Give strategic technical guidance on sector-specific issues to ensure that promising practices, new developments, and lessons learned are incorporated into the project programming.
  • Participate in the technical oversight of grant-funded projects and portfolios, including setting standards, tools development, capacity building, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Review and provide sectoral feedback on implementation reports and Post-Distribution Monitoring.
  • Support the development and dissemination of evidence and best practices, primarily in the area of protection in humanitarian setting.
  • Actively build a culture of safeguarding, where program affiliates (partners, staff, etc) are informed and empowered to discuss key issues, report, and take action on safeguarding. Make the project a safe place for all.
  • Lead thinking on safeguarding risks and mitigation issues across the project, including appropriate prevention, programming, and response methodology.
  • Ensure safeguarding is properly resourced across the program; advocate to the project’s Leadership Team for increased resources as needed.
  • Advise the project’s Leadership Team on safeguarding compliance gaps, prevention needs, and emerging risks.
  • Liaise with the Safeguarding Sr. Advisor to ensure that the project’s approach towards safeguarding aligns with World Vision standards.
  • Participate in WV Partnership working groups in the design, development, revision, dissemination and promotion of WV sector strategies, standards, guidelines, working papers, tools, and training materials.
  • Provide strategic input and support to WVUS/the Partnership in developing/reviewing appropriate policies and programmatic coordination for sector-specific policy implementation.
  • Participate in the documentation of proven models, emerging/promising practices, as well as best practices.
  • Foster organizational learning to promote technical excellence.
