This role is a vital part of the Tax Team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Estates and Trusts. The Senior Tax Technician will collaborate across departments to support the preparation and completion of a high volume of tax filings and related work for the firm and its clients. A key focus will be supporting personal tax engagements, providing exposure to complex and specialized tax areas, and developing technical expertise in personal tax, estates, trusts, and succession related matters.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education is required
  • Strong Excel skills (intermediate to advanced)
  • Strong numerical aptitude and comfort working with financial information
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of work under pressure
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Comfort working in a challenging environment with competing deadlines and multiple stakeholders
  • A strong commitment to continuous learning, including formal training, courses, and independent study
  • Interest in developing specialized knowledge in estate and trust taxation

Nice To Haves

  • An accounting or related discipline is considered an asset
  • Administrative or financial management experience considered an asset
  • Previous tax, estate, or trust experience is an asset
  • Experience with accounting software such as TaxPrep, CaseWare, QuickBooks, or Simply Accounting is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of tax filings, with a significant focus on: Personal tax returns (T1’s), including terminal returns, RRSP over-contribution forms, TFSA over-contribution forms, Trust returns (T3’s) and estate-related filings, Select corporate returns (T2’s) and related filings (e.g., capital dividend account elections)
  • Respond to CRA reviews and correspondence
  • Assist in preparing written submissions, including requests for relief or objections to CRA assessments
  • Manage and administer a significant volume of tasks, ensuring all work is accurately completed, filed, and tracked efficiently
  • Maintain strong organization across multiple files and deadlines, particularly during peak tax season
  • Support team members by answering questions and referencing previous filings
  • Correspond directly with clients and external advisors (e.g., brokers, lawyers) on general tax matters
  • Review CRA notices and assist with general tax research
  • Participate in weekly tax update meetings and contribute to team and client projects
  • Support farm clients by preparing farm program filings and personal farm tax returns, while developing general industry knowledge
