About The Position

Zurich Canada is seeking a Senior Tax Specialist with experience in corporate tax, premium tax, and commodity tax. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting, technical, and analytical skills, with the ability to understand complex instructions and communicate clearly. This role requires strong organizational skills to manage priorities and meet deadlines. The Senior Tax Specialist will report to the Vice President, Canada Taxation, and will be responsible for managing tax filings, ensuring compliance, conducting analyses, and supporting audits. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Corporate Tax area or accounting.
  • OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Corporate Tax area or accounting.
  • OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Corproate Tax area or accounting.
  • Experience in income tax
  • Statutory accounting knowledge.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of federal and provincial sale tax legislations and regulations
  • Knowledge of the federal and provincial income tax legislation and regulations
  • Working knowledge of the insurance industry and the unique rules associated with accounting and tax reporting
  • Undergraduate degree in a financial discipline or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPA Certification or enrolled in the program
  • Tax internship and/or professional experience in public or corporate accounting
  • Strong spreadsheet skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal GST/HST returns and provincial sales tax returns
  • Prepare premium/fire tax returns
  • Assist with preparation of federal and provincial corporate income tax returns
  • Prepare quarterly income tax provision calculations
  • Assist with other tax compliance tasks including tax instalments and account reconciliations
  • Provide support for internal and external audits, including responses to tax issues, assessments, and inquiries
