Senior Tax Manager This role is responsible for reviewing complex federal and state tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, gifts, estates, fiduciary entities, partnerships, corporations, and tax-exempt organizations within the BBH Multi-Family Office (MFO) Tax group. The position also includes selective tax preparation, maintenance of detailed workpapers, direct communication with clients and their advisors, and management of tax notices, inquiries, and certain audits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant tax experience, preferably with a Big Four firm.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA license required.
  • Deep knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and strong experience serving high-net-worth clients and related tax matters.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make an immediate impact with minimal oversight.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple assignments concurrently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CCH ProSystem and Bloomberg BNA Income Tax Planner software preferred.
  • Experience with QuickBooks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of assigned clients and adapt to changing priorities based on business needs and seasonal demands.
  • Compile, analyze, and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of financial statements to identify discrepancies and ensure completeness and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and their advisors, and BBH Relationship Managers and Wealth Planners.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, training, and oversight for junior tax accountants, including review of their work for accuracy and compliance.
  • Review highly complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, entities, fiduciaries, and gift tax filings.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of Schedule K-1 reporting for operating businesses, hedge funds, and private equity investments, including the ability to analyze K-1, K-2, and K-3 footnotes and assess their implications.
  • Review financial statements for a range of entity types to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Manage and coordinate tax audits, tax notices, and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Prepare tax returns and maintain detailed supporting work papers as needed.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize clients’ financial positions, identify tax-saving opportunities, and minimize tax liabilities.
  • Stay current on changing tax legislation and advise clients and internal partners on its implications.
  • Partner with BBH Relationship Managers and Wealth Planner teams to provide tax guidance related to business transactions, acquisitions, investments, and trust structures.
  • Prepare, review, and file accurate federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, trusts, and entities in a timely manner.
  • Support the overall execution of tax engagements by balancing preparation, review, client communication, and issue resolution.
