About the Opportunity The Senior Tax Accountant Is a key contributor to the company’s tax function, supporting a publicly traded environment with complex multi-state operations Is responsible for preparation of income tax compliance, tax provision (ASC 740), and indirect taxes including sales/use, gross receipts, and property tax Acts as a cross-functional partner to operations, accounting, finance, internal audit, legal, and treasury teams Drives process improvements through technology and automation Thrives in an acquisitive and jurisdictionally expanding business environment. This individual will work closely with the Director, Tax and Controller, Pennant Services, Inc., as well as key personnel at our external tax firms. The position also provides work direction and technical guidance to junior tax accountants. Duties and Responsibilities Business First Focus Think like an operator and communicate tax implications in clear, practical terms with a solutions-oriented approach. Prioritize business interrupting or budget to actual constraining tax issues. Proactive service forward attitude. Ability to understand GAAP before applying tax. Income Tax Provision Prepare quarterly and annual US tax provisions in accordance with US GAAP/ASC 740 and perform the required SOX control procedures Prepare book tax difference workpapers including: mergers and acquisition analysis, stock based compensation, 162(m), depreciation/amortization, and other perm and deferred tax items. Prepare trend analysis and identify tax rate drivers and variances. Prepare income tax journal entries and account reconciliations. Respond promptly to all internal and external auditor requests Income Tax Compliance Prepare or first review income tax returns including: Consolidated 1120, 1065s, multistate reporting, and tax credit calculations Work with outsourced tax services firm by providing data and coordinating the preparation of income tax returns. Review and maintenance of tax fixed assets. Prepare quarterly US tax estimates. Draft responses to income tax authority IDRs and notices. Support audits by tax authorities. Indirect Tax Review and timely file monthly, quarterly, and annual gross receipts, sales and use, and personal property tax returns. Analyze new vendors, new laws, and new entities for use tax applicability. Review gross receipts and use tax accruals and reconciliations. Proactively communicate to cross functional partners regarding P&L impacts of indirect taxes. Systems, Process Improvement, and Technology Develop and enhance tax processes through automation and improved workflows. Leverage latest technology tools (tax software, data analytics, ERP systems, AI). Identify opportunities to improve data accuracy, efficiency, and reporting speed. Requirements

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Tax required
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Tax
  • Demonstrated expertise as a tax analyst, including but not limited to: GAAP principles
  • Tax research
  • Strong proficiency in Excel/data science
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to learn new tax types/jurisdictions
  • Ability to leverage new technology
  • Detail oriented, professional demeanor, strong organization and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication / presentation skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Independently determines and develops approach to solutions
  • Seek review upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives
  • Approach problems with questions, not answers, to first gain understanding
  • A team member who brings joy to the work they do

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred
  • Public accounting or Fortune 500 company experience preferred

Responsibilities
