About The Position

American Century Investments is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join their Tax Accounting team. This role is responsible for tax accounting and compliance, technical tax research, planning, audits, and other tax-related initiatives. The Senior Tax Accountant will partner closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to analyze business activities, ensure proper tax treatment, and support strategic decision-making. This is a hybrid position based out of their Kansas City, MO office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • CPA required.
  • 3+ years of experience in tax (public accounting and/or industry).
  • Strong knowledge of income tax accounting, including ASC 740.
  • Advanced Excel skills and overall proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across teams.
  • Self-starter who can manage priorities independently while collaborating effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, including related financial statement disclosures.
  • Manage preparation of federal, state, local, and international tax filings.
  • Calculate and prepare estimated tax payments and extensions.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar to ensure all filings are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support tax audits, notices, and information requests.
  • Partner with external tax advisors on domestic and international compliance and consulting matters.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance tax processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain documented internal controls over tax processes.
  • Contribute to tax planning initiatives and evaluate positions to optimize outcomes.
  • Research and interpret tax laws, regulations, and rulings; clearly communicate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Stay current on tax developments and assess the impact of new legislation on the business.
  • Evaluate tax implications of business initiatives and advise internal stakeholders accordingly.
  • Support special projects and ad hoc analysis as needed.
