  • Minimum of 5 years of professional tax preparation and accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns for high-net-worth individuals.
  • Strong experience with individual and pass-through entity taxation.
  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, and related federal and state filings.
  • Strong understanding of K-1 reporting, basis, business income, investment income, capital gains/losses, and real estate-related tax matters.
  • Experience with multi-state tax filings.
  • Ability to research and analyze federal and state tax issues independently.
  • Strong understanding of tax compliance, documentation, and professional standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in complex financial and tax information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly to clients and non-tax professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively with attorneys, executives, financial professionals, and other professional advisors.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex client matters and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with professional tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth clients.
  • Experience working with entrepreneurs, closely held businesses, executives, and investors.
  • Experience with trusts, estates, gifting, and wealth-transfer matters.
  • Experience responding to IRS or state tax notices and assisting with examinations or tax controversy matters.
  • Experience working within a law firm, tax advisory firm, family office, wealth management firm, consulting firm, or multidisciplinary professional services organization.
  • Experience coordinating tax matters with tax attorneys and other legal professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for high-net-worth individuals and related businesses and entities.
  • Prepare and review Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, and related schedules and filings.
  • Manage tax matters involving multiple K-1s, partnerships, S corporations, LLCs, trusts, investment income, real estate holdings, and other pass-through entities.
  • Provide proactive tax planning and advisory support, including estimated tax calculations and year-end planning.
  • Analyze tax matters involving basis, passive activity limitations, capital gains and losses, business income, investment activity, and real estate.
  • Prepare and review multi-state individual and business tax returns.
  • Review prior-year returns and financial information to identify inconsistencies, errors, and tax-planning opportunities.
  • Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices, amended returns, examinations, and other tax authority correspondence.
  • Maintain organized tax workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding documentation, tax positions, deadlines, estimates, and filing matters.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, financial professionals, consultants, and other advisors when tax matters intersect with legal, estate-planning, transactional, investment, or business issues.
  • Manage multiple client engagements and tax deadlines while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and excellent client service.
  • Evaluating tax matters within the context of a client's broader business, legal, financial, and strategic objectives.
  • Supporting clients with multiple operating companies, investment entities, partnerships, real estate holdings, trusts, and other complex structures.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary engagements involving transactions, restructuring, acquisitions, dispositions, succession planning, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Identifying issues outside the accountant's scope and appropriately coordinating with the applicable Exemplar professional or outside advisor.
  • Maintaining clear documentation and communication when multiple professionals are involved in servicing the same client.
