About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant/Lead Tax Accountant to join their team. This role involves preparing and/or reviewing tax returns, payments, and accruals, preparing financial statements and regulatory filings, and managing annual tax budgets. The position requires researching tax and accounting issues, formulating recommendations for management, and potentially coordinating special projects related to acquisitions, divestitures, or new business opportunities. The role also involves analyzing the impact of new tax laws and assisting in training co-workers. The Lead Tax Accountant functions as a technical resource for day-to-day planning, research, and compliance in general and specified areas of taxation, potentially coordinating the preparation and review of tax documents and providing technical leadership. This role may involve advanced research, advising management on tax implications specific to the energy industry, analyzing changes in tax laws, and drafting ruling requests or protests. The position also assists with due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

Requirements

  • Lead Tax Accountant: 5-6+ years of experience that demonstrates an advanced understanding of concepts regarding tax laws and tax accounting practices and procedures.
  • Senior Tax Accountant: 5+ years of accounting experience or 4+ years of public accounting or corporate tax department accounting experience.
  • A Master’s degree will count as one year of experience.
  • A partial year of six months or more of experience will be rounded up to one year.
  • Knowledge of tax research methods with ability to interpret tax laws, prepare general tax research memorandums, and formulate recommendations for management.
  • Ability to research complex issues, formulate and develop recommendations to management.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with ERP software.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate the completion of multiple work assignments and/or projects, provide guidance where necessary, problem solve, and ensure that the project team meets its operational deadlines.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and training to others.
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to motivate team members towards completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to provide critical feedback and peer reviews for assigned work tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review all assigned federal, state and/or local tax returns, tax payments, and tax accruals.
  • Prepare information for financial statements and regulatory filings.
  • Prepare annual tax budgets and maintain actual to budget variances.
  • Prepare responses for internal and external audits of financial statements, regulatory filings, internal controls, and tax returns.
  • Research tax, accounting, or business issues related to assigned entities or projects, and formulate and provide recommendations to management.
  • Coordinate special projects, including analyzing tax issues in connection with acquisitions, divestitures, or new business opportunities.
  • Identify potential tax opportunities.
  • Analyze the impact of new or proposed tax laws and/or interpretations.
  • Assist in training of co-workers and dissemination of new or emerging issues or information.
  • Recommend changes to information gathering and tax filing processes.
  • Coordinate the preparation and review of all assigned federal, state and/or local tax returns, tax payments, tax accruals, research projects, financial reports and government filings to ensure compliance with government regulations and established procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership in coordinating the completion of multiple work assignments and projects.
  • Utilize specialized skills to research tax issues at an advanced level, formulating and providing recommendations to management to minimize tax consequences.
  • Advise management on tax implications of special tax issues related to the energy industry.
  • Analyze and interpret changes to federal, state or local laws and communicate financial impact of changes to management.
  • Draft or coordinate with outside counsel the drafting of ruling requests, protests and requests to communicate the company's positions with respect to issues arising from tax audits.
  • Participate in negotiations.
  • Assist with due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions, as needed.
