About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Tableau Developer to join our team. This role is 100% onsite in Woodlawn, MD, and requires the selected candidate to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance. The Senior Tableau Developer will be responsible for developing and enhancing Tableau dashboards in enterprise environments, modifying and extending existing reporting solutions, and utilizing advanced Tableau Desktop features. The role also involves data management and analysis, including writing and optimizing SQL queries, working with imperfect data, and troubleshooting Tableau performance issues. Additionally, the position requires delivering accurate, thoroughly tested dashboards, performing testing and validation, and documenting changes and technical details. Effective communication and the ability to manage multiple requests are essential.

Requirements

  • Master's and 5+ years of experience, Bachelor's and 7+ years of experience or 13+ years in lieu of a degree
  • 8+ years of experience with analysis, design and developing systems
  • Demonstrated experience with Tableau dashboard development and enhancement
  • Strong proficiency in Tableau Desktop and SQL (PostgreSQL preferred) and NoSQL database (Mongo DB preferred) querying
  • Experience with dashboard UX/UI principles and data quality troubleshooting
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum development environments
  • Experience in translating loosely defined requirements into polished, functional dashboards with minimal oversight
  • Strong experience writing and optimizing SQL queries, especially in PostgreSQL environments
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance
  • Willing to work on-site in Woodlawn, MD 5 days a week

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Snowflake or cloud data warehouse concepts
  • Experience in government or public-section Agile environments
  • Tableau Certification(s)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Tableau dashboards in enterprise environments
  • Modify and extend existing reporting solutions
  • Utilize advanced Tableau Desktop features (parameter actions, LOD expressions, relationships/joins, complex interactions, custom visualizations)
  • Design intuitive, visually clean, and story-driven dashboards focused on user experience
  • Translate loosely defined requirements into polished, functional dashboards with minimal oversight
  • Write and optimize SQL queries, especially in PostgreSQL environments
  • Work with messy or imperfect data; identify and resolve data quality issues
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Tableau performance issues (workbook optimization, calculations, filters, queries)
  • Deliver accurate, thoroughly tested, and low-defect dashboards
  • Perform dashboard testing, validation, and bug fixing, preferably in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Follow written technical requirements and implementation instructions with minimal rework
  • Document dashboard changes, testing results, and technical implementation details
  • Communicate proactively regarding risks, blockers, and implementation considerations
  • Manage multiple enhancement requests, defects, and ad-hoc analysis tasks efficiently
