About The Position

The Senior Systems Test Engineer oversees testing the embedded system to ensure it meets both system requirements and customer expectations. The Senior Systems Test Engineer owns the testing of new and legacy HVAC control systems in labs, test cells, and field trial sites. This role also develops tests and testing methodologies for the embedded controls of HVAC systems and will make significant contributions to the team by applying knowledge of the discipline while working independently with minimal guidance on projects. Reporting to the Associate Director, Firmware & Embedded Software, this position functions within a direct team of 15 while collaborating closely alongside a broader department of 50.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of systems engineering experience with embedded products
  • 5+ years of integrating and testing complex embedded control systems
  • 3+ years of experience using root cause analysis strategies
  • Able and willing to travel up to 10% per year (international and domestic)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a Technical field.
  • Experience providing systems engineering support in a cross-competency environment
  • Root Cause strategies including 5 Whys or 7-Step problem-solving.
  • Experience with serial communication protocols such as RS-485 and CAN (Controller Area Network)
  • Experience troubleshooting embedded controls systems
  • Experience in participating in DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
  • Experience in the use of JIRA/Confluence
  • Familiarity with C, C++ and Linux development

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with embedded systems engineers to define integration tests for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems.
  • Execute the role of a systems integration test engineer in the product development processes
  • Work closely with hardware, firmware, software, and manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Work closely with field trial coordinators in identifying and managing field trial sites
  • Assist in decisions on tradeoffs in product testing between hardware and firmware/software.
  • Capture requirements, write test specifications, define test plans for system verification and validation.
  • Perform testing in the systems labs and test cells.
  • Provide input to project planning process (e.g., estimates for project plan tasks, resources, completion time, capital requirements, risks, expenses, etc.)
  • Participate in software and systems DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Document systems and functional requirements.
  • Help define the systems and software testing approach for new products.
  • Develop systems-level test cases/plans.
  • Participate in risk identification reviews.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work within a project team.
