About The Position

The Boeing Company's Vertical Lift Mission Assurance Organization is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join their System Safety Engineering Team in Mesa, AZ, supporting the Attack Programs. This role involves assessing hazards across a broad range of subsystems including Airframes, Electrical, Mechanical, and Software. The position spans the entire program lifecycle, from conceptual development into design and test, production, and sustainment of fielded aircraft for both USG and International customers. Safety is a core value at Boeing, and the ideal candidate will be able to ask tough questions, challenge conventional thinking, and identify potential hazards to aircraft and crew. The engineer will interface with all levels of Engineering and Program Management, as well as customers, and will have the opportunity to expand skills in a fast-growing and critical discipline, with chances to lead appropriate efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Level 4)
  • 5+ years of experience in systems, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Safety, Systems Engineering, and/or Product Design experience
  • 5+ years of experience working across organizations and cross-functional groups to ensure project coordination, implementation and completion

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering leadership to multiple teams to ensure thoughtful strategic planning, development of objective statements of work, scheduling of work and estimating
  • Evaluate customer specifications and regulations, and assess the design to develop safety requirements, constraints, and operating limits
  • Develop System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs)
  • Perform a variety of hazard analyses across the full product life cycle, such as Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Aircraft and System Preliminary System Safety Analyses (PSSA), System Safety Analysis (SSA), Common Mode Analysis (CMA), Zonal Analysis, Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), Operational Health Hazard Analysis (OHHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR), System Safety Risk Evaluations (SSRE) and Fault Tree Analyses (FTA)
  • Review engineering design specifications, test and manufacturing operations, change proposals, anomaly reports, and deviation/waiver requests for potential safety impacts
  • Collaborate with government, customer and program domain experts
  • Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer safety boards, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews
  • Develop proposals, work statements, and specifications affecting system safety engineering scope and budget
  • Deliver oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, senior leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies
