Senior Systems Integration Engineer

Pacific FusionSan Leandro, CA
$175,900 - $263,800Onsite

About The Position

Pacific Fusion is seeking an exceptional Senior Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team and create the path to commercial fusion energy. Based in San Leandro, CA, Pacific is pioneering the development of state-of-the-art pulsed magnetic inertial fusion energy systems. In this role, you will bridge the gap between plasma physics and mechanical/electrical engineering during our prototyping and pilot plant design phase. You will lead the integration, modeling, and validation of complex subsystems, ensuring that our ambitious physics goals are translated into robust and reliable hardware. This position calls for technical rigor, visionary problem-solving, and the ability to thrive in a "deep tech" environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex, regulated hardware (Aerospace, Nuclear, or MedTech).
  • Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies, including SysML or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Proven record of managing technical interfaces for high-pedigree systems (e.g., high-voltage power or vacuum systems).
  • Superior problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, especially in translating complex scientific concepts for engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s Degree or PhD is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own the flow-down of top-level physics goals into detailed engineering requirements for subsystems like pulsed power and diagnostics.
  • Author Interface Control Documents (ICDs): Ensure seamless physical and functional integration across multidisciplinary teams by managing technical interfaces.
  • Execute Risk Mitigation: Lead systematic risk assessments, including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), to identify and mitigate technical risks early.
  • Integrated Modeling: Develop models and simulations to predict system-level performance and guide critical design trade-offs.
  • Testing and Validation: Oversee hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and system-level commissioning.
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers to integrate system-level designs.
  • Technical Documentation: Oversee the generation of comprehensive design documentation and specifications.

Benefits

  • Industry-competitive salary
  • Equity plan
  • 6% employer 401k matching
  • Generous paid time off (including sick leave, vacation, paid family leave)
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
