About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join the Navy Programs team. The role leads systems engineering activities throughout the life cycle of mission-critical systems supporting U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers, and shore-based platforms—from concept and requirements through integration, verification, and fielding. Work takes place in the lab and at customer and partner sites as the team develops and delivers prototype and production systems. The engineer will apply requirements management, system architecture, interface definition, and verification and validation to integrated hardware/software systems. The position is suited to someone who can own technical work end to end, resolve stakeholder conflicts, and mentor junior engineers. The engineer works closely with software engineers, hardware engineers, product leads, and testers in an agile team, supporting U.S. Navy submarine combat systems. This is a full-time position based in Manassas, Virginia. U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance are required. The annual base salary is $125,000–$134,000, with final compensation based on experience and skills.

  • Strong proficiency with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, Jama, or similar, including building and maintaining traceability.
  • Experience with system modeling using SysML and tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw or similar.
  • Experience developing ICDs, system specifications, and architecture documentation.
  • Experience developing and executing verification and validation plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including briefing technical material to customers and program leadership.

  • Familiarity with Linux-based and containerized computing environments.
  • INCOSE certification (CSEP or ASEP).

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering activities across the development life cycle, including requirements analysis, functional and performance analysis, architecture evaluation, trade studies, integration, and verification and validation.
  • Elicit stakeholder needs, resolve requirements conflicts, and communicate technical solutions to internal teams and Navy customers.
  • Establish and maintain bidirectional traceability between stakeholder needs, system requirements, design, and verification and validation results.
  • Develop and manage system interfaces and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) across hardware, software, and external systems.
