About The Position

The Senior Systems Engineer will be a key technical subject matter expert responsible for ensuring high equipment availability and optimizing system performance within the Regional Distribution Center. This role involves utilizing preventive and predictive maintenance processes, rapidly troubleshooting equipment breakdowns, and quickly restoring equipment to service to support the successful operation of the supply chain facility. The engineer will collaborate with other Target engineers and operational partners to optimize the performance and flow of material handling equipment (MHE) and will lead initiatives in building automation, continuous improvement, and new installations. Additionally, the role serves as an escalated support resource during downtime events, ensuring proper processes and training are implemented as part of root cause analysis, and proactively monitoring the overall health of the building’s material handling equipment. The Senior Systems Engineer will be an expert in material flow optimization, system controls logic, and will facilitate and train effective troubleshooting techniques. This role requires proactive monitoring and maintenance of building systems, maintaining expertise in all electrical, mechanical, and control system communication aspects of MHE, including conveyor systems, sortation, robotics, and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS). Diagnostic software and tools will be used to collect and analyze data for trend identification and improvement recommendations for building automation. The engineer will also conduct technical interviews for technician candidates, evaluate technical skills, and train and coach internal technicians, supporting training plan development and progress follow-up. Maintaining thorough knowledge and facilitating site training on safety procedures, including Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash, and ensuring a safe work environment by eliminating potential equipment safety hazards are critical. The role demands a self-starter with the ability to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, train, and coach across various resources and scenarios, managing multiple tasks simultaneously and working well under pressure. Requirements

  • Two or four-year Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering or equivalent degree / experience
  • Available to work all days and shifts (24 hours a day, 7 days a week operation, including holidays)
  • Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems
  • Experience with installing and maintaining many types of software and hardware
  • Strong organization and problem solving skills with a drive for results and the ability to handle multiple tasks and teams

Responsibilities
