About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Systems is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join a team of systems engineers developing hypersonic missile systems. In this role, the Senior Systems Engineer will help support early lifecycle reviews and design development by interfacing with the Software Development Team, Hardware Development Team, Analysis Team, Logistics Team, and Test & Integration Team. This Senior Systems Engineer will help develop systems engineering artifacts, including Requirements Specifications, Interface Control Documents, verification planning and reports, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) content. It is an expectation for this role that the Senior Systems Engineer will start the effort with direct tasking but move into a more autonomous role as the program goes on.
The Senior Systems Engineer will work in a matrixed organization, which supports multiple programs at once in a variety of engineering fields with all different team environments. When the current program ends, the Senior Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to support a different program in the portfolio. A candidate with experience in other engineering areas such as Test, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Risk Management, and Reliability Analysis will be treated preferentially. However, a strong background in traditional systems engineering and technical leadership is what is required for this position.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 8+ years of experience or an MS with 6+ years.
• Experience in deriving requirements for complex electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software systems.
• Experience conducting system-level requirements analysis, functional analysis, and trade studies.
• Capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Capable of leading large, complex tasks that span across multiple technical areas.
• Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment, including leading and conducting Technical Design Reviews, as well as presenting to customers and management.
• Demonstrated experience accurately estimating the engineering effort (i.e. hours) associated with Systems Engineering tasks.
• Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
• Possess a secret clearance or have the ability to obtain a secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Master of Science in System Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• At least 6 years of direct systems engineering experience.
• Experience and/or working knowledge with MagicDraw and/or other Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) modeling tools.
• Experience and/or working knowledge with DOORS and/or other requirements database tools.
• Understanding of the DoD acquisition processes and methods.
• Experience supporting DoD, NASA, or DARPA programs.
• Experience working with sub-contractors/vendors.
• Familiarity with building an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and task planning flows.
• Object Management Group (OMG) Certified System Modeler Professional (OCSMP) certification.
• INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification (ASEP or CSEP).
• Experience in other engineering areas such as Test, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Risk Management, and Reliability Analysis.
