Senior Systems Engineer

General Motors•Sunnyvale, CA
•$189,530 - $189,530•Hybrid

About The Position

The Senior Systems Engineer defines requirements and metrics to validate perception software and support safe, comfortable autonomous vehicle operations. The role owns analysis and characterization of perception systems that inform software development and launch decisions, and develops simulation- and road-based testing strategies for continuous, scaled software releases. It applies systems engineering and data analysis to design validation, risk analysis, and prioritization, and owns long-term roadmaps for stable requirements verification, validation, and software solutions across multiple product lifecycles. The engineer also mentors team members and facilitates cross-team collaboration on perception validation strategies for new launches. This role follows a hybrid work policy requiring three days in the office and two days remote, with the employee able to report to a local office.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience as a Software Engineer, Perception Algorithm Developer Engineer, or in a related role.
  • Five years of experience in systems engineering robotics, systems analysis, data analysis, and statistical analysis.
  • Three years of experience using SQL, Python, and C++ for large data sets.
  • Three years of experience evaluating machine-learned systems and setting acceptance criteria for perception systems and state estimators.
  • Three years of experience with detection and classification metrics, including precision, recall, and footprint overlap.
  • Three years of experience with vehicle dynamics and deriving requirements based on physics.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements and metrics for validating perception software for safe and comfortable autonomous vehicle operations.
  • Own analysis and characterization of perception systems to inform software development and launch decisions.
  • Prototype and develop simulation-based and road-based testing strategies for continuous, scaled software release cycles.
  • Use systems engineering and data analysis to support data-driven design validation, risk analysis, and prioritization decisions.
  • Own roadmaps for long-term, stable requirements verification and validation, and software solutions to advanced problems across multiple product lifecycles.
  • Mentor team members and facilitate cross-team collaboration to define perception validation strategies for new launches.

Benefits

  • Incentive pay program with payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
  • Employee well-being support at work and at home, as described in GM's Total Rewards resources.
