About The Position

Strategic Defense Solutions is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, and verification of advanced mission‑communication systems. In this role, you will apply strong systems engineering discipline across the program lifecycle and contribute to high‑visibility efforts that directly support national‑security missions. You will work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, influence system architecture, and ensure engineering rigor from requirements through sustainment. This position requires: US Government Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret Security Clearance Day 1. Onsite: This is an onsite role supporting our Richardson, TX location.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government DoD Top Secret Security Clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. Citizen - U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
  • Significant experience in requirements development, system architecture, and system integration
  • Strong knowledge of verification and validation practices and documentation
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication abilities.
  • Experience with mission communication systems
  • Hands‑on experience with system testing and associated documentation (test plans, procedures, reports)

Nice To Haves

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance (TS/SCI eligibility preferred).
  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques
  • Certification in relevant industry standards (e.g., INCOSE CSEP)
  • Experience with risk management and configuration management processes
  • Prior experience leading engineering projects or small technical teams

Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyze, and manage complex stakeholder and system‑level requirements
  • Maintain full traceability across requirements, design artifacts, implementation, and test
  • Support customer and regulatory requirement validation activities
  • Develop system concepts, architectures, and interface definitions.
  • Lead trade studies and evaluate alternatives to optimize cost, schedule, and technical performance
  • Ensure architectural alignment with mission objectives and engineering standards
  • Define system‑level verification and validation strategies
  • Oversee integration activities across hardware, software, and subsystems
  • Plan, execute, and document system‑level testing
  • Serve as a key technical interface between engineering, program management, and customers
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and decision support to multidisciplinary teams
  • Present design approaches, progress, and risks to internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify, assess, and manage technical risks and mitigation plans.
  • Support configuration control, baseline management, and change approval processes
  • Ensure adherence to relevant engineering standards, policies, and compliance requirements
  • Participate in design reviews, technical milestones, and readiness assessments
  • Support product sustainment, upgrades, and technology insertion activities
  • Contribute to proposal development, cost estimating, and planning efforts
