Senior Systems Engineer I

Trystar IncBurnsville, MN
$116,000 - $133,000Onsite

About The Position

Trystar is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer I to lead the design and integration of electromechanical subsystems and contribute significantly to system-level engineering of advanced electrical power solutions. This role involves ownership of key aspects of system architecture, requirements development, and technical execution throughout the product lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability standards, resolve system integration challenges, and ensure alignment across engineering disciplines. This is an opportunity for a capable engineer to expand ownership, lead technical efforts, and make a meaningful impact on multidisciplinary engineering teams. The role also involves mentoring early-career engineers, contributing to project planning and estimates, and supporting project reviews. Additionally, the engineer will convert learning into reusable design rules, workflows, and platform building blocks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in electromechanical systems, with a focus on electrical power systems.
  • Familiarity with systems-engineering methods (architecture, requirements, integration).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles as they relate to power distribution, conversion, quality, and system integration.
  • Proven experience in testing, validation, and troubleshooting of electromechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with the industry standards and regulations that apply to electrical power products.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other relevant software.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA, as driven by business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience in research and new product development.
  • NFPA 70E certification.
  • Knowledge of UL standards such as UL1008, UL508A, UL1691, UL489, UL924, UL1741, and UL9540, and code differences across NFPA 70, 101, and 99.
  • Experience with modeling software for mechanical and electrical design (SolidWorks / SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering/product-data-management (Vault) software.
  • Experience working with vendors, suppliers, consultants, and contract manufacturers.
  • Basic project management skills, with the ability to lead technical teams.
  • Experience with renewable energy, microgrids, energy storage, or power conversion technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system design and validation for significant subsystems or product areas.
  • Own key portions of system architecture, requirements definition, and traceability.
  • Influence trade studies and key design decisions.
  • Drive system integration, testing, and validation, including troubleshooting of complex issues.
  • Engage stakeholders early to expose sourcing, certification, compliance, and manufacturing constraints before they reach the critical path.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines and functions, and reinforce Trystar’s systems-engineering standards.
  • Mentor early-career engineers.
  • Contribute to project planning and effort estimates, and support project stage-gate and release-readiness reviews.
  • Convert learning into reusable design rules, workflows, and platform building blocks.
