About The Position

Baltimore Consulting is a Hunt Valley-based managed services provider serving organizations throughout the Baltimore/Washington region. The Senior Systems & Cloud Engineer owns complex technical issues, serves as a trusted escalation resource, and communicates confidently with clients. The role spans Microsoft 365 and Azure, Entra ID, Intune and Defender, Windows Server, virtualization, firewalls, switching, wireless, and VPN infrastructure. Work includes advanced troubleshooting, infrastructure projects, proactive client improvements, and technical escalation, as well as direct client communication to explain technical issues and recommendations and build long-term relationships.

The position is primarily in-office in the Baltimore Metro area, with one remote day per week. Occasional local on-site client visits are required. The engineer participates in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule, approximately one week every three months, and may support planned project maintenance windows outside business hours, typically two to four per year with advance notice.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of professional IT experience, preferably in an MSP or consulting environment.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues, communicate recommendations to clients, and take technical ownership through resolution.
• Strong networking expertise with firewalls, managed switches, wireless, and VPNs, including deployment, ongoing management, and troubleshooting.
• Advanced Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration, including hands-on experience with Intune, Defender, Conditional Access, identity and security controls, and multi-tenant environments.
• Strong Windows Server and Azure infrastructure experience, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and identity integration.
• Comfort with scripting and automating tasks using PowerShell.
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent prioritization skills and composure when managing competing demands.

Nice To Haves

• Relevant Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Security, or Identity certifications.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to team knowledge-sharing practices.
• Familiarity with MSP PSA/RMM tools such as Autotask, Datto RMM, and IT Glue.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior escalation resource for complex issues across Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, networking, virtualization, and security, providing remote and on-site support as needed.
• Design, configure, and manage Microsoft Entra ID and Intune solutions across client environments.
• Configure and manage Microsoft 365 security and compliance services, including Conditional Access, Identity Protection, Microsoft Defender, and Microsoft Purview.
• Design, implement, and migrate client infrastructure solutions across Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, and virtualization platforms.
• Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot firewalls and network infrastructure, including resolving complex network outages at client sites.
• Provide client support via phone, ticketing system, and email, remotely and on-site as needed.
• Perform proactive maintenance on client environments and collaborate with account teams to recommend infrastructure improvements.
• Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule, approximately one week every three months.
• Support occasional project work outside business hours, typically two to four planned maintenance windows per year with advance notice.
