About The Position

The Senior Systems Architect reports to the MSTP Project Manager and receives work direction derivatives from the Communications and Information Systems Lead. This role involves leading the architectural design, planning, and integration of MSTP enterprise systems to support daily operations and exercises. The architect will develop and maintain high-level system architecture documentation, define system modernization strategies, and oversee the configuration, deployment, and optimization of enterprise services and infrastructure. Responsibilities include conducting pre-event architectural testing, designing and validating classified infrastructure environments, establishing security and performance requirements, integrating enterprise services and coalition networks, and providing high-level engineering support for complex system issues. The role also involves assessing architectural impacts of mission requirements, recommending system improvements, maintaining advanced documentation, monitoring system performance, strengthening system resilience, evaluating emerging technologies, and advising engineering teams on best practices.

Requirements

  • IAT Level II: Baseline Certification ‑ IAW DoD 8140.01 required (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP)
  • A minimum of one valid Computing Environment (CE)/Operating System (OS) Certificate (i.e. MS Windows Server 2012 R2 Cert, MS Windows 10 cert, a VMware 6.0 Cert)
  • At least 3 years in IA technology or a related area.
  • Must possess and maintain training and certifications sufficient to be granted privileged access to Marine Corps information technology (IT) and information systems (IS)
  • At least five years of experience in IT, which should include successful experience as an enterprise team member or lead.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and SharePoint.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to design and write clear communications and present training programs.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, prioritization, interpersonal skills, and able to instinctively adapt, plan, inform and influence.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus
  • A Secret security clearance is required for this position.
  • This position also requires a completed Personnel Security Investigation that will qualify the incumbent to be eligible for access to at least the TS-SCI level, and the individual must be read-in for NATO level access.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred level of certifications and experience include: MCSE: Core Infrastructure, MCSA: Windows Server 2016, Dell/EMC SAN, Windows and Linux virtualization in VMware technologies, ESXi on VMware vSphere v6.7/v6.5/v6.0/v5.5, vCenter, and MS PowerShell automation
  • MEF level operational military experience in communications with prior experience at the field grade level (0602, 0603, 0699) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design, planning, and integration of MSTP enterprise systems to support daily operations and exercises.
  • Develop and maintain high‑level system architecture documentation, including physical and logical server diagrams for planned, in‑development, and operational systems.
  • Define system modernization strategies, technology roadmaps, and long‑term architectural standards aligned with MSTP objectives.
  • Oversee configuration, deployment, and optimization of enterprise services and infrastructure.
  • Conduct pre‑event architectural testing to identify risks, resolve complex system failures, and ensure optimal system performance.
  • Design and validate classified infrastructure environments (e.g., physical blade servers, storage arrays, chassis, virtualized infrastructures, multipurpose server environments).
  • Establish security, interoperability, scalability, and performance requirements for MSTP enterprise architectures in accordance with DoD standards and cybersecurity policies.
  • Help integrate MSTP enterprise services, coalition networks, and system architectures.
  • Provide high‑level engineering support for complex system issues.
  • Assess architectural impacts of mission requirements and recommend system improvements.
  • Maintain advanced operations, configuration, integration, and design documentation.
  • Monitor system performance metrics and ensure architectural availability, and reliability.
  • Strengthen system resilience through redundancy planning, disaster recovery, and continuityofoperations design.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and tools to enhance MSTP capabilities.
  • Advise engineering teams on system architecture best practices and technical guidance.
