About The Position

PKI/HSM is responsible for engineering, automating, and supporting Walmart's enterprise cryptographic infrastructure, including Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Certificate Lifecycle Management (CLM), and Hardware Security Modules (HSM). This role designs secure, scalable cryptographic services, enables certificate automation and workload identity, manages enterprise key infrastructure, and partners with security, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams to protect critical business systems while driving modernization and operational excellence. The team is dedicated to designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable cryptographic infrastructure that supports enterprise business objectives. It leads modernization efforts for Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Hardware Security Modules (HSM), and certificate lifecycle management across on-premises and cloud environments. Collaborating closely with security, infrastructure, networking, and application teams, the group emphasizes automation, operational efficiency, and compliance with security standards. Members contribute to developing innovative solutions, ensuring high availability and reliability of cryptographic services while mentoring peers and driving continuous improvement in infrastructure security and automation practices.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in infrastructure security, scalability design, and disaster recovery methodologies.
  • Proficiency with automation tools and scripting languages to streamline workflows and deployments.
  • Strong knowledge of configuration management and infrastructure maintenance best practices.
  • Expertise in public key infrastructure, certificate authority management, and hardware security modules.
  • Ability to design modular, extensible systems aligned with security standards and compliance frameworks.
  • Skilled in capacity management, performance optimization, and resource rightsizing.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, telemetry implementation, and secure software development lifecycle practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or related area and 3 years’ experience in systems and infrastructure engineering or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
  • 5 years’ experience in systems and infrastructure engineering or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Security+, GISF, CISSP, CCSP, or GSEC
  • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity or related area
  • 1 year’s experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support enterprise PKI, Certificate Lifecycle Management (CLM), and Hardware Security Module (HSM) solutions.
  • Automate certificate and cryptographic key management using scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code, and CI/CD tools.
  • Partner with security, infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to integrate enterprise cryptographic services.
  • Drive modernization, certificate automation, workload identity, and cryptographic agility initiatives.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize PKI and HSM platforms to ensure availability, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate on capacity planning to optimize resource utilization and forecast future infrastructure needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues, escalating as necessary to maintain system integrity.
  • Apply security standards and best practices across infrastructure components and automation processes.
