The Senior Systems Administrator is a technical expert and cross-functional leader who helps design, implement, and maintain the systems and networking environments that keep Docker reliable, compliant, and scalable as the company grows. This role leads major infrastructure projects, mentors peers, and influences company-wide IT policy and standards. As a Senior Systems Administrator at Docker, you will be responsible for the design, administration, hardening, and continual improvement of our compute, storage, virtualization, and networking environments. You will ensure operational excellence across Linux, macOS, Windows, and virtualized platforms; monitor performance and security; and lead complex infrastructure modernization projects. You will mentor and provide technical direction to other members of the IT team and partner with security, compliance, and engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable services for a global workforce.

Requirements

  • 5+ years professional systems administration experience (or equivalent) in production environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering Linux, macOS, and Windows desktop/server environments and endpoint management.
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure upgrades.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage, high-performance computing (HPC) environments, and hybrid on-prem/cloud deployments.
  • Strong knowledge of identity and access management, least-privilege models, and security controls (experience working with security and compliance teams is highly required).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communications, and documentation skills; comfortable working directly with end users and technical stakeholders in complex environments.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and mentor less-experienced team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, IaC, SDLC, version control, and automation languages is highly desirable.
  • Experience with leveraging AI tools for scale, and championing and executing AI-forward initiatives, integrations, and tooling is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend and implement improvements to systems and network configurations; define hardware and software requirements for those changes.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including hardware, systems software, applications, and configurations.
  • Monitor systems, virtualization hosts, and peripheral devices for performance, reliability, and security; determine when adjustments are required and coordinate with technical support staff and vendors.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues; diagnose faults, replace defective components, escalate complex issues appropriately, and research long-term solutions.
  • Design, configure, and implement tests across the IT stack (systems, endpoints), networking, and virtual infrastructure.
  • Manage identity and access tasks: resolve security/access issues and maintain the integrity of access control systems; leverage automation to improve services, and reduce overhead and errors.
  • Develop and maintain clear systems administration documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to other administrators and cross-functional project teams.
