About The Position

NVIDIA has been transforming computer graphics, PC gaming, and accelerated computing for more than 25 years. It’s a unique legacy of innovation that’s fueled by great technology—and amazing people. Today, we’re tapping into the unlimited potential of AI to define the next era of computing. An era in which our GPU acts as the brains of computers, robots, and self-driving cars that can understand the world. Doing what’s never been done before takes vision, innovation, and the world’s best talent. As an NVIDIAN, you’ll be immersed in a diverse, supportive environment where everyone is inspired to do their best work. Come join the team and see how you can make a lasting impact on the world. Are you passionate about open-source packaging and delivering GPU-accelerated software to developers worldwide? We are seeking a System Software Engineer to join Kitmaker, our team responsible for getting NVIDIA's software out the door. As NVIDIA scales its AI computing and accelerated software portfolio, first-class support in the Nix ecosystem is critical to reaching developers who rely on reproducible, declarative system configurations. Kitmaker oversees packaging and release for many business areas of NVIDIA, from CUDA Toolkit to our expanding compute software stack, and we're investing heavily in growing our presence in the nixpkgs ecosystem. If you love building high-quality Nix packages, contributing upstream, and bridging the gap between NVIDIA's proprietary software and open-source packaging communities, you'll thrive on our team!

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in software packaging, release engineering, DevOps, or related areas
  • Strong expertise with the Nix package manager and Nix expression language
  • Demonstrated contributions to nixpkgs or other open-source Nix projects
  • Familiarity with CUDA Toolkit packaging challenges such as driver/runtime compatibility and versioning
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline development
  • Proficiency in scripting languages for tooling and automation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across internal teams and open-source communities

Nice To Haves

  • Active maintainer of GPU-related packages in nixpkgs.
  • Experience packaging complex, multi-version software stacks in Nix
  • Familiarity with other packaging ecosystems such as conda-forge, RPM, or Debian.
  • Track record of upstreaming fixes to nixpkgs rather than maintaining downstream forks
  • Experience with binary cache infrastructure or artifact management systems.
  • Active involvement in the NixOS community

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and improve Nix packages for CUDA Toolkit, cuDNN, TensorRT, and other NVIDIA compute libraries, ensuring they are correct, reproducible, and upstreamable to nixpkgs
  • Engage directly with the nixpkgs open-source community - reviewing PRs, participating in RFC discussions, and coordinating upstream contributions as needed
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate the build, test, and release of Nix packages at scale
  • Partner with product teams to understand release cadences and ensure NVIDIA software is available in nixpkgs promptly and reliably after each upstream release
  • Evaluate existing packaging approaches with a critical eye to identify opportunities to improve reproducibility and usability
  • Act as an internal subject-matter expert, advising teams on how to support Nix-related procedures into software releases
