About The Position

The System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) Department ensures our products Safety and Human Factors disciplines are incorporated into all our engineering and program execution to provide for our customers critical needs. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior System Safety Engineer to join us onsite in Tewksbury, MA. As a Senior System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs, performing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, or customer’s approved equivalent. You will coordinate with customer safety representatives, applying methods, standards, and techniques to provide clarification of system requirements to software, hardware, and test personnel to ensure design and architecture considerations are appropriately allocated to the system and horizontally integrated across the development teams. You will also coordinate with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities, working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls. Collaboration with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds is also a key part of this role. Performing System Safety planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses, briefing safety considerations at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process, interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards, and preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program are also included. Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design, and interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering are essential. Managing System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and Customer representatives is also part of the responsibilities. This includes performing System Safety Program, Hazard analyses or Design analyses, briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process, interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards, preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program, and collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with system safety
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1
  • DoD Clearance: Secret

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400). This includes hardware and software safety related tasks.
  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882 / DO-178
  • Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
  • Experience reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering.
  • Experience managing Working Groups.
  • Experience with risk assessment concepts, such as those in MIL-STD 882E.
  • Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
  • Active and transferrable final U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.
