About The Position

Power your future with Qualus in our Engineering Department as an Senior Protection and Controls Engineer. As a Senior P&C Engineer you will be responsible for protective relaying equipment, determining device settings, and developing protection, control, and automation philosophy.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree from an accredited college/university with 8 years industry experience and a Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineering degree from an accredited college/university with 10 years of industry experience without a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: Electric utility system protection principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: Protection philosophies employed across the company.
  • Demonstrated skills such as: Technical analyses utilizing appropriate computer modeling techniques.
  • Demonstrated skills such as: Time management, organizational, oral, and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Completes relay coordination analyses and determines appropriate settings for substation projects.
  • Leads the development of company system protection philosophy; design of protection, control, and substation automation schemes, and specify relaying and associated equipment, including automation methodologies and large to complex remedial action schemes.
  • Performs studies, prepares, and provides reports to executive management, internal and external customers.
  • Apply technical expertise and knowledge in developing state-of-the-art solutions for large to complex protection problems, including the analysis of power system disturbances.
  • Ensures quality control and external customer service on assigned projects by providing construction support and coordination with construction forces and proactively seeking and incorporating customer input.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company, including NERC/WECC mandates.
