About The Position

The System & Lab Administrator is a key member of the support and infrastructure team, responsible for maintaining and evolving the lab environment used for product validation. This role supports the engineering team by managing test and development infrastructure—including servers, virtual machines, networks, and automation tools—and by helping build reliable and scalable test setups. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on technical skills, experience with virtualization and containerization technologies, strong network troubleshooting skills and the ability to script monitoring and automation tools that enhance the efficiency of the infrastructure workflow. This is a hybrid role; the selected candidate will work a minimum of 3 days per week from HPE office in St. Laurent.

Requirements

  • 8+ years experience with infrastructure administration in a lab or production environment.
  • B. Sc. Computer Science or B. Eng (software, electrical or computer engineering) required.
  • Hands-on experience with KVM virtualization, Docker, and Linux-based systems.
  • Strong knowledge with networking concepts: VLANs, routing, switching, firewalling, DHCP, DNS.
  • Familiarity with scripting skills for automation, system health monitoring, and configuration tasks.
  • Ability to work with physical networking equipment (APs, switches, gateways).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in both hardware and software environments.
  • CCNA certification or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with access management technologies like LDAP.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Knowledge of REST APIs and automation frameworks.
  • Exposure to RF or wireless networking technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain lab servers, storage systems, and virtualization environments.
  • Manage VM lifecycles (creation, configuration, optimization, retirement) in environments such as KVM.
  • Oversee lab network configuration including VLANs, routing, and controlled access to devices under test.
  • Ensure stable and secure connectivity between test systems, management stations, and shared resources.
  • Troubleshoot network outages (off-hour availability when necessary).
  • Create/maintain documentation and lab topology diagrams.
  • Build, configure, and maintain test topologies using: Access points (APs), Switches, Gateways and Additional RF, routing, and networking equipment as required
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to define requirements and optimize testbed reliability.
  • Develop and maintain scripts (Python, PowerShell, Bash) and tools to monitor test setups, system health, resource consumption, and connectivity.
  • Implement alerting and logging mechanisms to quickly identify failures or abnormal behavior.
  • Support the creation of automated workflows to streamline processes and reduce manual interventions.
  • Deploy and manage services using Docker containers where applicable.
