About The Position

Knowledge Services is currently seeking a Senior Systems Administrator for a contract to hire role with the State of Indiana Public Retirement System INPRS. Applicants must be able and willing to convert to a full-time employee without the need for current or future sponsorship of a work visa. This role involves the ongoing operations and maintenance of an IaaS hosted environment leveraging both enterprise-level Linux and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, ensuring server and application availability. The position requires critical thinking, complex problem-solving skills, and the ability to develop and document processes based on best practices for operating system security, configuration management, and disaster recovery. Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in computer science, engineering, equivalent experience, or relevant certifications.
  • 5-10 years of server configuration management, administration, and production support experience.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Architecture and hands-on technical experience with VMware’s vSphere Platform, VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM), vCloud Director, VMware Migration tools/techniques.
  • Knowledge of Morpheus VM Essentials.
  • Detailed knowledge of Oracle Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Basic understanding of migrating existing applications and services to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, OCI, Google Cloud).
  • Ability to install, configure, and maintain CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitLab to automate deployment processes.
  • Knowledge of managing containerization using Docker, including image creation, orchestration, and deployment.
  • Knowledge of implementation and managing analytics tools like Looker to support data visualization and reporting needs.
  • Intermediate proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and integration tasks.
  • Working knowledge of SQL scripting.
  • Experience with networking and security principles.
  • Experience working and managing relationships with cloud/service providers.
  • Experience working within an ITIL framework.
  • Experience within Microsoft Active Directory Services.
  • Production experience with VMware-focused server virtualization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NAS and SAN concepts and connectivity.
  • Knowledge of domain/forest management structure and basic switching/routing concepts.
  • Applied experience handling performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Basic to intermediate shell scripting knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and plan systems architecture and design.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, document, and evaluate server requirements.
  • Ability to conduct incident triage research into server and application issues, as required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation.
  • Ability to present technical ideas, problems, and solutions to non-technical business partners.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, organize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, or function in a team as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Administration and support of the computing and VMware environment, specifically troubleshooting virtual machines, Oracle Linux, and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Working under demanding deadlines, operating independently to resolve complex problems.
  • Installing, maintaining, and administering the Windows Server Active Directory Services infrastructure.
  • Maintaining CRM (Salesforce related) accounts.
  • Performing platform support including monitoring, performance tuning, capacity planning, and maintaining overall service and platform health to maximize system uptime.
  • Maintaining and administering DHCP, DNS, IIS, sFTP, and other network services.
  • Acting as a member of an integrated operations team through the management and support of an infrastructure cloud environment.
  • Acting as liaison between infrastructure and Enterprise Architecture.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based architectures.
  • Administering server hardware and software inventories and documentation.
  • Participating in database designs and implementation.
  • Ensuring security procedures are implemented and enforced.
  • Managing Microsoft server security configuration and patching.
  • Assisting in provisioning and administering user access credentials and folder permissions.
  • Supporting web portals, middleware, infrastructure applications, APIs, network, and monitoring needs.
  • Facilitating deployment of application code enhancements to environments.
  • Presenting ongoing recommendations for operational improvements of applications.
  • Providing support for the restoration of services, including investigation of outage cause and business impact.
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving daily system backup process failures.
  • Responding to server resource monitoring alerts.
  • Monitoring and working on customer support tickets and requests.
  • Serving as an on-call support person as part of a rotation within an application support team, covering regular business hours, nights, and weekends on a scheduled basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
