About The Position

Under the general supervision of the circulating registered nurse and in collaboration with the service-line coordinators, clinical supervisors and surgery manager, the surgical technologist III is an individual with demonstrated competence in surgical scrubbing technique(s) who provides scrub services for the department. This role ensures the functionality, availability and sterility of OR supplies and equipment prior to the start of the daily caseload, scrubs and handles instruments during surgical procedures, and adheres to standards of aseptic technique in all phases of surgical intervention. The position also involves assisting service-line coordinators in receiving and stocking supplies/equipment for a cluster of specialties, reporting variations in stock inventory levels, communicating opportunities for systems improvement, and participating in selected patient care activities such as room turnover and transporting as needed. Additionally, the role contributes to meeting the department's budgetary objectives and supports the philosophy, objectives, and goals of hospital administration. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist course (not required if more than 10 years of experience).
  • National Certified Surgical Technologist - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting upon hire.
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • 5 years experience as a surgical technologist with the ability to competently scrub all regularly performed procedures in seven of the eight core service-line clusters (cardiac, thoracic/vascular, orthopedics, spine, general/urology/gynecology, EENT/plastics/maxillofacial, neuro, robotics).
  • Of the seven service-lines, five must be general/urology/gynecology, orthopedics, spine, neuro and thoracic/vascular.
  • If cardiac is one of the service-lines that can be scrubbed competently, only three other service-lines are required to be able to scrub competently.
  • For internal candidates, the minimum experience can be waived if the ability to scrub in the service-lines as listed above is met.
