Under general supervision, this role schedules surgical procedures and appointments, registers patients, and ensures a high level of accuracy with all tasks. The position requires knowledge of various insurance plans, CPT & ICD-10 codes, and medical terminology. The specialist will be responsible for reserving operating rooms, scheduling equipment, posting patients for procedures, and managing cancellations and changes. This role also involves preparing and distributing operating room schedules, maintaining patient records, and communicating with physicians' offices and hospital departments. The specialist will work closely with surgeons to schedule procedures according to insurance restrictions and hospital policies. Additionally, the role includes typing correspondence, assembling and maintaining patient files, scheduling and confirming appointments, preparing daily schedules, mailing reminders, pre-registering patients, verifying insurance coverage, checking patients in, ordering office supplies, participating in staff training, checking for referrals, collecting payments, and obtaining prior authorizations. The position also involves maintaining a computerized scheduling and billing system, receiving and screening telephone calls, and identifying opportunities for operational efficiency. The specialist is expected to be open to feedback, escalate concerns, and communicate updates.
