About The Position

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations. Under the joint direction of the Pathology Laboratory Supervisor or delegate and the Site Medical Manager (Pathologist), this position is responsible for the development and administration of all teaching programs and continuing education within the area. In addition, the incumbent is also responsible for giving technical support to the Surgical Cutting Room staff. The incumbent will maintain a safe environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines and ensure compliance with quality assurance programs and maintain standards put forth by Accreditation. Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health, current policies and procedures and applicable legislation.

Requirements

  • Three years relevant experience required.
  • Graduate from a recognized Pathology Assistant Program preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science degree including courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology from a recognized university; Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) specializing in Histology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology (Phase 11) required.
  • Knowledge of Histology procedures and basic Pathology required.
  • Knowledge of Routine Practices required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good technical knowledge for interpretation of results, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Good visual and aural acuity, and manual dexterity required.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience an asset.
  • Relevant advanced technical courses or seminars an asset.
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP) or equivalent (the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistants) is preferred.
