  • Strong knowledge of supplier quality tools and methods, including supplier audits, advanced quality planning, control plans, FAI/PPAP or equivalent approval processes, root cause analysis, corrective action, process capability, measurement system analysis, and risk-based supplier management.
  • Experience with metal fabrication, welding, pressure testing, mechanical testing, electrical assemblies, hardware, data center infrastructure, industrial equipment, or complex engineered products preferred.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, tolerances, test requirements, inspection plans, and supplier manufacturing process documentation
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and supplier relationship management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional discussions, communicate technical requirements clearly, and drive accountability without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex supplier quality investigations, facilitate structured problem-solving, present data-driven recommendations, and manage multiple supplier improvement priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support supplier audits, qualifications, problem-solving, and development activities; typical travel expectation is 10–30%.

Nice To Haves

  • Factory-floor presence with a hands-on, practical approach to solving mechanical quality problems.
  • Data-driven, detail-oriented, and disciplined in follow-through on containment, corrective action, and effectiveness verification.
  • Collaborative and credible with manufacturing operators, supervisors, engineers, inspectors, suppliers, Field Construction teams, and leadership.
  • Proactive in identifying mechanical quality risks before they become defects, field issues, or customer escapes.
  • Committed to build-it-right quality, first-pass yield improvement, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site and remote supplier assessments, audits, and qualification activities for new and existing suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier quality system maturity, manufacturing capability, process controls, capacity, and compliance with company, customer, and industry requirements; provide approval and risk recommendations to Supplier Quality leadership and Procurement.
  • Lead supplier onboarding and advanced quality planning activities by ensuring specifications, drawings, inspection requirements, control plans, special process requirements, and quality performance expectations are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report supplier performance data, including nonconformances, defect trends, delivery-impacting quality issues, repeat failures, audit findings, corrective action status, and cost of poor quality.
  • Facilitate supplier performance reviews, scorecard discussions, risk reviews, and improvement planning.
  • Lead containment, disposition, root cause analysis, corrective action, and effectiveness verification for supplier-related nonconformances identified during receiving inspection, manufacturing, assembly, integration, commissioning, or field operations. Ensure timely closure and prevention of recurrence.
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate critical supplier risks, including repeated quality escapes, inadequate corrective actions, process instability, poor responsiveness, lack of improvement, or deterioration in supplier performance.
  • Serve as a primary technical interface between suppliers and internal Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Project Quality, and Quality teams. Drive clear communication of requirements, support design-for-manufacturability and supplier readiness discussions and ensure supplier feedback is incorporated into risk mitigation and continuous improvement activities.
  • Review and approve first article inspection reports, production part approvals, inspection records, test documentation, and supplier quality documentation for new suppliers, new parts, engineering changes, or first-time builds with existing suppliers.
  • Ensure critical supplier processes have adequate process documentation, inspection plans, measurement systems, special process controls, traceability, control plans, and process capability evidence. Verify these controls remain effective throughout supplier manufacturing operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in developing supplier qualification, onboarding, supplier development, corrective action, on-boarding and supplier management processes.
  • Mentor supplier quality engineers or cross-functional team members as needed and contribute to standard work, tools, templates, and quality system improvements.
  • Support strategic supplier development initiatives, including risk-based supplier segmentation, improvement roadmaps, process audits, supplier scorecard governance, and cross-functional problem-solving to improve supplier capability and reduce quality escapes.
