About The Position

Under direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, scheduling, and coordinating the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation repairs of the Water Reclamation plant and related areas. This role involves overseeing maintenance activities, supervising personnel, and contributing to the efficient operation of the facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of tools used in mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of wastewater collection systems.
  • Knowledge of divisional work rules and employee bargaining unit agreements.
  • Knowledge of effective supervisory techniques.
  • Knowledge of record keeping procedures.
  • Skill in planning, coordinating, and supervising the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in evaluating situations and making appropriate decisions.
  • Skill in reading technical drawings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients.
  • Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Tests equivalency.
  • Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance of a large wastewater treatment plant or other closely related industry utilizing similar equipment.
  • Two (2) years of general supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prioritizes, and reviews the mechanical and electrical maintenance, repair, overhauling, and replacement of all Water Reclamation plant equipment and the maintenance and repair of plant buildings and grounds.
  • Prioritizes work for first-line supervisors and coordinates maintenance activities with the Operations Section.
  • Supervises the painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repair to buildings and equipment.
  • Inspects mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, tanks, piping, and grounds to determine the need for maintenance and repair.
  • Develops and implements a preventative maintenance program for essential water reclamation equipment.
  • Oversees the maintenance of various records and prepares status reports of work being performed.
  • Works with engineers and contractors on plant expansions and modifications as part of the management team.
  • Confers with Division Administrators concerning maintenance activities and recommends changes in the maintenance program, including budgetary revisions.
  • Provides recommendations regarding changes in work rules and bargaining unit agreements to ensure the efficient operation of the facility.
  • Counsels employees and/or initiates disciplinary actions as required.
  • Hears employee complaints and grievances and adjusts and/or recommends disposition of same.
  • Determines need and provides training for employees as necessary.
  • Participates in the interview process for prospective employees and makes recommendations for appointment.
  • Works on special projects and prepares reports as directed.
