About The Position

As a Senior Substation Structural Engineer, you will lead structural design engineering and analysis on substation scopes. This involves collecting and assimilating data for engineering work, performing research, and preparing calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards. You will develop recommendations for equipment and materials, understanding and working successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements. You may assist with providing guidance to engineering team members and maintain positive client relations by understanding client interests and drivers through effective communication with the project team. You may also assist with business development activities. This role functions as a technical specialist or has management and/or administrative responsibilities for a group. You may supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity, and/or be recognized as a key reference for technical guidance through depth and breadth of knowledge. You will have some influence for scope of responsibilities within the organization.

Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in Engineering work
Minimum of 11 years related work experience
All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.

Active PE License
Advanced knowledge of Structural Engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
Intermediate to advanced structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or equivalent
Foundation design experience using analysis and design software such as LPile, RISA Foundation, SP-Mats, etc.
Experience performing structural connection and miscellaneous calculations using MS Excel and/or Mathcad
Written Communications, Drive for Results, Priority Setting, Planning, Delegation, Directing Others, Conflict Management, Informing, Listening, Dealing with Ambiguity, and Building Effective Teams
Previous client interaction experience with solid relationship-building abilities in pursuit of business opportunities.

Experience with the design of utility-scale electrical substations, energy, renewables, or similar fields

Responsibilities

Assists in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards
Provides technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines

Provides related guidance and direction to others

Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects

Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
Develops and applies advanced engineering solutions to complex problems

Reviews lower-level engineering work or assignments

Typically provides support to business development or pursuit activities
Serves as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area

Assists with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required

Manages engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline

May approve timesheets and expense reports
Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.
