About The Position

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is seeking an experienced substation senior engineer for their Portland, OR office (physically located in Tigard, OR). This role involves configuring and producing engineering drawings for the installation and commissioning of electro-mechanical and microprocessor type protection relay systems in high voltage substations. These systems are crucial for protecting and controlling various electrical equipment in substations and switchyards, operating at voltages from 4.16 kV through 500 kV. The engineer will collaborate with design teams on conceptual, preliminary, and final designs, producing essential diagrams such as one-line, three-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams. A key expectation of this role is the diligent education and training of less experienced staff. Occasional travel may be required.

Requirements

• BSEE or MSEE required.
• 5+ years of experience specifying, configuring and producing engineering drawings for installation and commissioning of electro-mechanical and microprocessor type protection relay systems in high voltage substations.
• Extensive background in power system protection and control required.
• Proven experience managing a team.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational and writing skills.
• Must not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status) now or in the future.
• Must meet the requirements of ECI's auto insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

• Configuring and producing engineering drawings for installation and commissioning of electro-mechanical and microprocessor type protection relay systems in high voltage substations.
• Protecting and controlling the operation of distribution and transmission lines, medium and large power transformers, shunt capacitor banks, shunt reactors, series capacitor banks and associated electrical buses and equipment in high voltage substations and switchyards.
• Working with design teams involved with conceptual, preliminary, and final design of station projects 4.16 kV through 500 kV.
• Producing one-line, three-line, schematic and wiring diagrams for high voltage substation projects.
• Educating and training less experienced staff.
