Senior Substation Physical Designer 2 - Grid
About The Position
The Senior Substation Physical Designer works in a project team with engineers and other designers on high- and extra-high-voltage substation design. The role prepares substation design drawings and deliverables, incorporates vendor information, performs walkdowns at client facilities, and applies client standards. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, with time split between the office and remote work. Requirements
- At least 12 years of substation physical design experience.
- An associate’s degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and at least 2 years of drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; the employer does not sponsor work authorization for this position.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Design.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
- Interest in learning and effectively using emerging technologies where relevant to the role; experience with AI, automation, programming, or similar technologies is valued but not required unless specified elsewhere.
Responsibilities
- Prepare substation general arrangement drawings.
- Prepare substation electrical equipment plans.
- Prepare substation section views (elevations).
- Prepare detailed substation bills of material.
- Prepare substation lightning stroke shielding plans.
- Prepare substation grounding plans.
- Prepare substation conduit, electrical connection, and grounding details.
- Prepare below-grade substation conduit/raceway plans.
- Prepare control building equipment, cable tray, lighting, and grounding plans and sections.
- Interpret vendor information and incorporate it into design deliverables.
- Perform walkdowns at client facilities.
- Apply client standards to the work.
