About The Position

The Senior Structural Engineer will complete and coordinate activities within the Structural Engineering Department. This position will be responsible for reviewing documents, collaborating with project teams, attending meetings, conducting field observations or inspections and investigating non-compliant conditions. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn. Autonomy & Decision-Making: Makes decisions on routine matters, provides recommendations to supervisor and refers all exceptions to supervisor. Career Path: Structural Engineering Manager

Requirements

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
  • Communication skills, verbal and written – Intermediate
  • Proficiency in MS Office – Intermediate
  • Proficiency in RISA or similar structural analysis software – Intermediate
  • Formal presentation skills – Intermediate
  • Ability to read drawings, specifications, building codes and other technical product and material data – Advanced
  • Knowledge of material and field testing for QA processes – Intermediate
  • Knowledge of construction assemblies for a variety of construction systems – Intermediate
  • Proficiency in basic construction and quality software tools
  • Knowledge of construction trades and scopes of work – Intermediate
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering or related field (Required)
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years construction or structural engineering related experience (Required)
  • Cross-functional knowledge of the key disciplines (Architectural, Structural, MEP) and relevant trades
  • Valid and unrestricted drivers license required
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet business needs
  • May require periods of overnight travel

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with internal structural engineering team to assist project teams with structural issues.
  • Assistance to all JE Dunn Quality personnel for structural related issues.
  • Assists internal structural engineering team with Pre-Build shop engineering needs.
  • Means & Methods design and/or review of design. Examples: Construction bracing, Temporary shoring, Construction hoists and pumping, Tower Cranes
  • Receives assignment from higher-level structural engineers and performs appropriate calculations.
  • Participates in field observations and inspections.
  • Collaborates with project team for communication with design team on structural issues. (Structural Engineer of Record maintains responsibility for structural design and any changes incorporated.)
  • Reviews and assists with structural challenges on jobsites.
  • Conducts quality walks at job sites and manufacturing facilities for structural scopes (i.e. precast, structural steel, cast-in-place).
  • Prepares structural drawings and calculations for Design Phase Services projects.
  • Collaborates with Trade Partners on structural issues and solutions.
  • Conducts detailed constructability reviews and participates in page-turn review meetings.
  • Leads basic training onsite or at office location on construction, quality-related topics related to structural scope.
  • Prepares for and attends trade partner pre-installation meetings.
  • Identifies, documents and recommends solutions to construction quality issues with internal project teams.
  • Creates technical documentation for internal use based on knowledge and review of industry standards (i.e. white papers).
