About The Position

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to work alongside our growing team in Rocky Hill, CT. This role involves performing on-site field work, planning, designing, and administering construction for various vertical and horizontal structure projects. Responsibilities include project budgeting, scheduling, coordination with other disciplines, conducting studies, preparing plans and specifications, and providing peer review services. The position also involves assisting with business development, proposal writing, and presenting technical concepts to clients. The Senior Structural Engineer will manage and mentor junior staff and oversee project phases, including contractors and sub-consultants. Some travel is required for client meetings and project sites.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in structural engineering
  • BS in Civil Engineering is required with a structural concentration
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Connecticut, or ability to become licensed withing 6 months.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment to collaborate and problem solve daily challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Civil Engineering is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT are highly desirable
  • Knowledge of ETABS, RISA, STAAD, Visual Analysis, or other structural design and analysis software is a plus
  • Understanding of the Connecticut Building Codes (Building and Existing Building) is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site field work related to buildings and other structures
  • Work with others to plan, design, and perform construction administration of a variety of vertical and horizontal structure type projects, including project budgeting, work flow scheduling, and coordination with other disciplines
  • Perform studies and prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates; and peer review services of designs and reports prepared by others
  • Work with the technical staff to assist in pursuits for new business, including proposal writing and other business development tasks
  • Present technical concepts and alternatives to clients, including public presentations, to support permits and other approvals
  • Manage and mentor Junior staff on the structural team
  • Manage phases of assigned projects that may include oversight of contractors and sub-consultants
