About The Position

Bennett & Pless is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join their growing team in the Loudoun, VA office. This role involves leading structural engineering design and delivery for a variety of projects, managing the entire project lifecycle from concept to completion. The Senior Engineer will act as a technical leader, providing practical and efficient design solutions while ensuring quality and client satisfaction. Collaboration with clients, architects, contractors, and internal teams is key for design coordination and resolving technical issues. Depending on experience, the role may include Project Manager and/or Engineer of Record responsibilities. The position also involves attending project meetings, participating in business development, strengthening client relationships, and identifying future work opportunities. A strong technical background, commitment to engineering excellence, and a passion for mentoring junior engineers are essential. The role offers a clear path for professional growth and leadership development, with opportunities to increase responsibility, influence team growth, and potentially transition into an Engineering Supervisor role. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Active Professional Engineer license.
  • 10+ years’ experience required in structural engineering.
  • People management experience
  • Experience with industry standard software, including but not limited to Tekla Structural Designer (TSD), ETABS, SAFE, SAP, Microsoft products, Bentley (RAM) products, RISA, EnerCalc, Adapt, etc.
  • Project management experience/ability is required.
  • Structural design experience utilizing different construction materials and structural systems; including but not limited to steel, concrete, and masonry design in low to mid-rise structures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines, and bring each to completion.
  • Must be a self-starter and always willing to listen, learn, and improve.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
  • Must demonstrate team leadership ability, and ability to train and mentor younger engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Revit is preferred.
  • Client management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with clients attending client, architect, and contractor meetings, reviewing structural documentation, and supervising/mentoring junior staff.
  • Oversight of design calculations, preparation of the construction documents, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, site reviews, and RFI responses.
  • Coordinates information across all disciplines to ensure deliverables are compliant with client expectations and Bennett & Pless quality levels.
  • Performs QA/QC of work performed by others.
  • Mentors and provides oversight to engineering team.
  • Responsible for the learning, professional development, and growth of the assigned team, as well as training and career development.
