About The Position

MG2, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is currently seeking a Senior Buildings Structural Engineer to join our Structural Engineering team in our Portland, OR office. Colliers Engineering & Design engineers ensure projects meet safety standards and functional requirements, designing structural systems for buildings, foundations, and earth retention structures for new construction, additions, and renovations. They have experience designing projects constructed of steel, timber, reinforced concrete, or masonry. By developing strong connections with clients, Colliers Engineering & Design engineers ensure their designs enhance the health, welfare, safety, and comfort of building occupants. Projects include new buildings, renovations, and re-purposing. Engineers create cost-effective environments employing up-to-date sustainability practices. Streamlined coordination with other in-house services facilitates an efficient approach and complete engineering package spanning all phases of structural design and construction, including feasibility studies, scope and condition assessment, code compliance review, static/dynamic load analyses, drawing preparation, bidding services, and construction administration.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited University.
• P.E. required.
• 10+ years of professional structural engineering experience required.
• AutoCAD proficiency required.
• Proficient in Revit required.
• Possess an intermediate to advanced understanding of structural design software such RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, SAFE, PROFIS, etc. with a willingness to learn and adapt to new software.
• A willingness to learn and adapt to new software and client needs.
• Understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles.
• Knowledge of current building and material design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE7, AISC360, ACI318, ACI 530 or NDS.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Able to work independently and also collaboratively on a team.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Nice To Haves

• Mass timber experience or desire to learn preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations with the aid of computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations.
• Create structural design plans and details in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Coach and Mentor more junior staff.
• Perform site visits, make observations of ongoing construction progress, and survey the structural components of existing buildings.
• Coordinate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review shop drawings and respond to RFI’s.
• Perform QA/QC related tasks.
