The engineer will collaborate with structural engineers, interface with other engineering disciplines, and guide less experienced project team members. The role supports projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants, applying knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design. As part of engineering and design teams serving various clients, the engineer will prepare and review design calculations, develop specifications, support designers with drawing development, and guide the development of engineering deliverables. Using computer tools, the engineer will analyze and design steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations. Travel may be required to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for construction coordination and field verification of designs. The Nuclear Power Group works on nuclear engineering, design, and licensing, including small modular reactors, advanced reactor technology, reactor restart projects, existing plant life extensions and digital modernization, coal-to-nuclear conversion initiatives, and international nuclear new-build projects. Sargent & Lundy describes its work as supporting clean, carbon-free energy and reducing emissions.
