About The Position

As a member of the substation design team, the Senior Structural Designer 2 works with multidisciplinary engineering and design project teams to develop AIS and GIS substation electrical physical layout drawings in 2D and 3D models. The role involves designing substation structures and foundations and investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving structural design issues. The position allows a hybrid work schedule, combining time in the office with remote work from home. There may be opportunities to accompany and assist senior designers and engineers on field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in drafting, or a high school diploma plus at least one year of drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
• At least 12 years of detailed structural design experience developing foundation plans, foundation details, and structure details.
• Basic knowledge of substation physical design.
• Proficiency with MicroStation or AutoCAD and design software tools for executing 3D plant layout models.
• Experience reviewing structural drawings involving electrical substation equipment outlines and interface points.
• Ability to interface with engineering and design teams from other disciplines during the substation design process.

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency with MicroStation, Bentley Descartes, AutoCAD, Raster Design, Inventor, SDS, and/or Bentley Substation.
• Interest in learning and effectively using emerging technologies where relevant to the role; experience with AI, automation, programming, or similar technologies is valued but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop AIS and GIS substation electrical physical layout drawings in 2D and 3D models.
• Design substation structures and foundations and investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve structural design issues.
• Use 3D modeling software tools to generate electrical design schematics.
• Coordinate detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated substation design model.
• Support designers and project team members to ensure complete and timely design delivery.
• Plan and execute structural design deliverables independently and as part of a design team.
• Potentially accompany and assist senior designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.
• Guide others in the use of drafting tools and mentor less experienced drafters and designers.
