About The Position

The Senior Strategic Business Development Manager is responsible for driving long‑range commercial growth through strategic relationship development, market collaboration, and early‑stage design influence across FW Murphy’s priority market segments. This role focuses on developing accounts, not simply managing them—building deep, multi‑level partnerships that shape customer roadmaps, specifications, and technology adoption. To be successful in the position, the candidate will be required and able to: Act as a strategic advisor to customers and internal leadership: This position leads initiatives that expand FW Murphy’s presence in targeted markets, including midstream and industrial engine applications. The role emphasises awareness creation, ecosystem engagement, and collaborative opportunity development to position FW Murphy solutions at the concept and design stages of customer programmes. Influence customers commercial strategy: Create significant, customer engagement models, and long‑term growth planning. The individual serves as the primary commercial liaison for strategic corporate accounts and works cross‑functionally with sales, engineering, operations, product management, and executive leadership to align customer strategies with FW Murphy’s broader business objectives. Identifying emerging opportunities: Shaping customer specifications and standards, strengthening FW Murphy’s market position, and driving long‑cycle revenue growth through strategic market development and relationship‑led influence. Success requires advanced business acumen, strong executive presence, and the ability to guide internal and external stakeholders without direct authority. Subject Matter Expert: Able to translate and understand FW Murphys product portfolio at a strategic account development and enterprise‑level providing insight into market trends, competitive dynamics, and customer strategies that supports long‑term commercial growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in strategic sales, key account management, corporate account management, or technical sales.
  • Demonstrated success influencing executive stakeholders, driving strategic customer growth initiatives, and developing long-term market expansion strategies.
  • Experience supporting industrial, engine, oil & gas, automation, controls, or related technical product environments preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain executive-level customer relationships and influence strategic decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of commercial strategy, customer relationship management, and market development principles.
  • Experience working with distributers, channel partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly for customer visits, strategic meetings, and industry events.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic growth initiatives for key corporate and enterprise-level accounts within targeted market segments, including midstream, engine, and industrial applications.
  • Own and lead executive-level strategic partnerships with key customers and influencers, serving as the primary commercial liaison for high-impact corporate accounts.
  • Influence customer specifications, standards, and long-term technology adoption strategies to strengthen FW Murphy’s market position and expand enterprise customer engagement.
  • Conduct regular in-person customer visits to understand operational needs, identify opportunities, and support overall account growth strategies.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration efforts across sales, engineering, product management, operations, and leadership teams to align strategic customer initiatives with broader business objectives.
  • Support and coordinate activities with master distributers and channel partners to ensure alignment with corporate account strategies and customer expectations.
  • Identify new business opportunities, competitive threats, market trends, and customer requirements and communicate findings internally.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive positioning, and customer strategies to influence commercial direction and identify long-term growth opportunities.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to leadership regarding market expansion, customer engagement, and competitive positioning.
  • Support development and execution of long-range commercial growth strategies within assigned markets and accounts.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for strategic account development and enterprise customer engagement.
  • Provide commercial and technical support during customer meetings, project discussions, and specification reviews.
  • Participate in industry events, trade shows, customer meetings, and networking opportunities to promote FW Murphy solutions and strengthen market presence.
  • Maintain accurate customer activity, opportunity tracking, and forecasting, account activity, and strategic plans within CRM systems.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and commercial support to sales personnel and channel partners as needed.
  • Support resolution of complex customer concerns and coordinate internal resources to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
