About The Position

Virtual Service Operations (VSO) is seeking a Senior Storage Design Engineer to join their team supporting a critical government mission in Quantico, Virginia. In this role, the engineer will partner with the Government Lead on daily engineering duties, implementing and administering enterprise networked storage infrastructure. This includes capacity planning, performance analysis, and storage architecture design across a complex multi-system environment. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in NetApp and EMC solutions, hands-on ONTAP CLI experience, SAN/iSCSI design, and SnapCenter administration.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in storage engineering or a related discipline
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business, or a related field
  • Active Secret clearance required

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Government Lead in daily engineering duties on enterprise storage systems
  • Implement and administer networked storage infrastructure and interconnected systems across a complex environment
  • Determine current levels of system and application resource utilization and performance; construct analytical models and workload projection methodologies
  • Utilize capacity management toolsets to perform workload sizing for new and existing applications; plan and evaluate storage requirements
  • Construct capacity plans and reports, oversee storage of capacity and performance data, and conduct capacity management audits
  • Support the implementation of hardware and software upgrades and analyze the impact of new technologies on processor and peripheral performance
  • Support disaster recovery sizing activities
  • Design, develop, and integrate Storage Attached Network (SAN) storage solutions including NetApp and EMC platforms; provide capacity and performance management, design, configuration, and integration
  • Design, develop, and operate High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions to configure, integrate, and support virtualization, systems, and appliance storage
  • Complete tasks associated with Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NAS design, configuration, and integration with switching fabric; perform data de-duplication, mirroring, and retention
  • Design storage devices based on capacity analysis; execute installation and integration of storage devices, systems, and components
  • Develop, configure, and integrate Virtual Storage Console for VMware
  • Perform tasks associated with application networking ports and protocols, Information Assurance (IA), routing, and LAN; execute storage security design and management
  • Configure and integrate NetApp Data ONTAP (8.x and 9.x); administer via ONTAP CLI
  • Perform storage design supporting Microsoft DFS, Exchange, and SQL using LUNs, quota distribution, and file sharing
  • Design and operate storage integration with virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V
  • Perform storage integration with SQL 2008 R2 and HBSS on various server hardware
  • Utilize SnapMirror, SnapDrive, and SnapManager for Exchange/SQL configuration
  • Add and restore databases using SnapCenter; troubleshoot SnapCenter issues
  • Utilize NetApp tools including Data Fabric Manager, OnCommand Operations Manager/System Manager, Active IQ (AIQ), and PowerShell
  • Write API code and work proficiently with Oracle or other relational databases
