About The Position

As part of a growing and dynamic team, the Senior State Tax Analyst is a key role that will help to build and strengthen state tax processes for Rehlko’s tax department. The senior state tax analyst has a primary focus on U.S. indirect tax and state income tax compliance. Key responsibilities include preparing, reviewing, and analyzing detailed tax workpapers; ensuring accurate and timely filing of state and local indirect tax returns; and supporting the preparation of state income tax returns. This role also contributes to process improvements and internal controls to strengthen overall tax compliance efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or advanced degree strongly preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant income tax experience (public accounting and/or large corporate tax department experience).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with proven analytical and critical‑thinking abilities.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling capabilities.
  • Experience with Vertex O-Series and compliance tax software preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems; SAP and OneStream experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • State Income Tax
  • Prepare state apportionment calculations, adjustments, and supporting workpapers.
  • Prepare quarterly state tax estimated payments and coordinate payments.
  • Maintain compliance calendars to ensure timely filings across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Support state income tax audits, data requests, and notices.
  • Assist with accounting for state income taxes, including account reconciliations and tracking of state tax payments and other state tax attributes.
  • Sales & Use Tax
  • Prepare workpapers to support multi‑state sales and use tax filings
  • Reconcile tax accounts and ensure proper supporting documentation is maintained.
  • Assist with exemption certificate management, including obtaining, validating, and storing certificates.
  • Support sales and use tax audits by gathering documentation and preparing responses.
  • Identify process gaps and propose improvements for tax coding, system configuration, and compliance workflows.
  • Monitor, organize, and respond to inquiries in the Sales & Use Tax shared inbox.
  • Review invoices, tax notifications, exemption certificates, and vendor questions to determine proper tax treatment.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Accounts Payable, and business units to resolve tax‑related issues.
  • Other
  • Prepare and file annual business personal property tax returns, including collaboration with corporate accounting to understand fixed asset listings and ensure accuracy of data.
  • Assist with annual informational reporting (Forms 1099 and 1042).
  • Assist with other tax projects, as requested.
